Christmas Technology
I’ve always spent extra effort making sure my family always has access to tech to play with and engage with for fun, learning, and exposure. So this Christmas, I decided to upgrade my brother Adam (and his family) from a hand-me-down computer from 2008, all the way to 2018, all new parts, and no hand-me-downs. He’s an awesome dad, and deserves a little gaming time, along with a platform he can use to show his kids computers and technology.
And it’s name is Charlie.
Charlie’s Specifications
- Micro-ATX Form Factor
- CPU: AMD RYZEN 7 2700 8-Core 3.2 GHz (4.1 GHz Max Boost)
- RAM: 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4
- Video Card: Geforce RTX 2080 Ti
- Storage: SAMSUNG 860 EVO Series M.2 2280 2TB SATA III 3D NAND
I decided to use this build as a chance to make a medium budget smaller Micro-ATX based build, in the smallish sized NZXT H400 CA-H400B-W1 White SECC Steel and Tempered Glass Micro ATX Tower Computer Case. It’s a handsome case the kids should be able see inside of. Which also gave me the opportunity to play with RGB lighting, something I’ve missed on prior builds for various reasons. It was a really fun and tidy build that runs very quiet and stable. I decided to go for a long lasting build, and used the ridiculous Nvidia 2080 Ti RTX so that there would be literally nothing he couldn’t play.

The CPU is not overclocked, if Adam chooses to do that he can, but it’s already very impressive as it sits now.
